I found the commercial potentially to be vaguely derogatory to gay men (or anyone in the LGBT community), as the only 'funny' aspect was the straight guys reaction to these 'epiphanically gay' guys, which might be construed as surprise, but might just as easily be construed as disgusted disapproval.I, for one, don't think there is anything wrong with explaining to a five year old why two people of the same gender are showing affection to each other, as the only affection they should be seeing is of the G-rated sort anyway. I would have just as much a problem with my child being exposed to x-rated heterosexual material as x-rated homosexual fare.

If ever faced by a child of mine with the question "why are those boys kissing each other," I shall have respect enough for both my child's intelligence and the subject of his question to answer the same way I would if that child asked me why anybody would kiss another person: "Because they love each other." I don't mention this as a qualifier of myself as an open-minded straight male (though I do readily identify as such) but I used to harbor this subtle prejudice, the idea of ​​homosexuality as a dangerous thing to expose a child to, as something to be discussed later when the child is more 'mature' perhaps, less likely to be 'da

It is important, though, to realize that it is at precisely such a young age that so subtle a prejudice is likely to develop, and that precisely by avoiding such a subject we teach that the subject is taboo and somehow looked down upon, that it is undesirable. It is widely (scientifically) accepted that homosexuality is a physiological condition, as natural as heterosexuality, and that such a homosexual persons identity (just as a straight person's does) begins to form at a young age (2 or 3 years I believe?) .

If such a child at such an age is taught even indirectly (as by avoidance of the subject) that something is bad, it is easy to see how that child could BEGIN life with a crisis of identity, a deep, inborn shame not logical or natural but taught, a crisis which could affect them for that person's entire life. Sorry to be so long winded. Thoughts? I really wish they would take these ads off the air or run them only in late night programming. It bother me when they are run during programs I watch with my kids. From a business perspective, I wonder why Man / crunch would spend so much to reach the small percentage of viewers who would be interested in their services. From marketing standpoint a much more targeted approach makes ore sense. However they are getting a huge amount of exposure from the news stories and they won't even have to pay for the ad, so maybe they knew it would be rejected and they just wanted the publicity from the controversy ... that makes more sense than running the ad itself.
